Gujarat High Court stays OTT release of 'Maharaj' featuring Aamir Khan's son

The Gujarat High Court has issued a stay order on the Over-The-Top (OTT) release of the film 'Maharaj,' which features Aamir Khan's son, Junaid Khan, in a prominent role. The decision comes amidst a legal challenge raised against the film's release, citing alleged violations of copyright laws and intellectual property rights.

'Maharaj,' a highly anticipated film directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, has garnered attention for its star-studded cast and compelling storyline. However, the film's release has been mired in controversy, with allegations of copyright infringement surfacing against the filmmakers.

The petitioner, a playwright named Manoj Desai, has claimed that 'Maharaj' bears striking similarities to his own play, 'Raja Ka Beta,' which he alleges was plagiarized by the filmmakers. Desai contends that the film's storyline, characters, and dialogues closely resemble those of his play, thus warranting legal intervention to protect his intellectual property rights.

In response to the petition, the Gujarat High Court has issued a stay order preventing the OTT release of 'Maharaj' until further notice. The court's decision reflects the seriousness of the allegations raised by the petitioner and underscores the importance of upholding intellectual property rights in the entertainment industry.

The case highlights the complexities and legal challenges associated with film production and distribution in India's vibrant entertainment landscape. As the matter unfolds in court, stakeholders in the film industry await further developments while emphasizing the importance of respecting original creative works and safeguarding against plagiarism and copyright infringement.
